چکیده

We study the properties of the field in the fundamental mode HE 11 of a vacuum-clad subwavelength-diameter optical fiber using the exact solutions of Maxwell's equations. We obtain simple analytical expressions for the total intensity of the electric field. We discuss the origin of the deviations of the exact fundamental mode HE 11 from the approximate mode LP 01. We show that the thin thickness of the fiber and the high contrast between the refractive indices of the silica core and the vacuum clad substantially modify the intensity distributions and the polarization properties of the field and its components, especially in the vicinity of the fiber surface. One of the promising applications of the field around the subwavelength-diameter fiber is trapping and guiding of atoms by the optical force of the evanescent field.

Sensitivity Enhancement of Fiber Optic Diesel Adulteration Detection Sensor Using Stripped Clad SBend Section

A novel geometry for enhancing the sensitivity of intensity modulated refractometric fiber optic sensor for detection of adulteration level in diesel by kerosene is proposed. In this multimode plastic optical fiber is uncladded for specific length and bent into S shape. This geometry is simulated and analyzed using Beam Propagation Method in Beam prop RSOFT software. When sensor is immersed in ...

Near-field distribution in light-coupling masks for contact lithography

We discuss the potential and limitations of light-coupling masks for high-resolution subwavelength optical lithography. Using a three-dimensional fully vectorial numerical approach based on Green’s tensor technique, the near-field distribution of the electric field in the photoresist is calculated. We study the dependence of the illuminating light and the angle of incidence on polarization. Fur...

Polarization characteristics of double-clad elliptical fibers.

A scalar variational analysis based on a Gaussian approximation of the fundamental mode of a double-clad elliptical fiber with a depressed inner cladding is studied. The polarization properties and graphic results are presented; they are given in terms of three parameters: the ratio of the major axis to the minor axis of the core, the ratio of the inner cladding major axis to the core major axi...

Graphene-clad tapered fiber: effective nonlinearity and propagation losses.

We derive a pulse propagation equation for a graphene-clad optical fiber, treating the optical response of the graphene and nonlinearity of the dielectric fiber core as perturbations in asymptotic expansion of Maxwell equations. We analyze the effective nonlinear and attenuation coefficients due to the graphene layer. Based on the recent experimental measurements of the nonlinear graphene condu...

Single Mode Air-Clad Single Crystal Sapphire Optical Fiber

The observation of single mode propagation in an air-clad single crystal sapphire optical fiber at wavelengths at and above 783 nm is presented for the first time. A high-temperature wet acid etching method was used to reduce the diameter of a 10 cm length of commercially-sourced sapphire fiber from 125 micrometers to 6.5 micrometers, and far-field imaging provided modal information at interval...
